ICEF, with slogan ‘Connect. Recruit, Grow, connects educators, education providers and education agents to key markets and networks worldwide, supporting the growth and development of international education and global student mobility. Through ICEF’s various services, education institutions are able to achieve results and efficiencies in growing international student enrolments. Since 1991, thousands of educators (universities, colleges, vocational institutions), and student recruitment agents (study abroad advisors, student recruiters, educational consultants) have chosen ICEF for their international student recruitment needs.
There are abundant benefits a consultant can have by engaging with the ICEF. An education consultant gets a platform to easily develop worldwide partnerships by expanding and diversifying recruitment reach. As an ICEF affiliate, consultant can also increase students’ enrolment by not only broadening and diversifying counselor’s portfolio, but also by strengthening existing business relationships with education providers. Through ICEF, affiliates can attend productive and effective workshops which make them aware of the current market trend. Additionally, gaining an access to resources and professional training from the ICEF adds value to agents’ competence and capabilities.
The ICEF has many solutions to enhance student recruitment process of which three tools are most effective: the ICEF Agent Training, ICEF Workshops, and ICEF Monitor. As a consultant, we can use these solutions in our marketing and student recruitment initiatives.1. The ICEF Agent Training:
It includes the ICEF Agent Training Course (IATC) and the Canada Course for Education Agents (CCEA). Details on IATC is provided in the paragraphs below, and if any of you are interested in working with Canadian Education Providers, please browse www.icef.com and search for CCEA.1.1 IATC Test Leading to The ICEF Trained Agent Counselor:
All IATC course participants have the option to take the formal IATC test and earn a professional designation: ICEF Trained Agent Counselor. More than 600 individuals from around the world have successfully completed the IATC assessment and have become the ICEF Trained Agent Counselors. The IATC is a practical, professional training course for agency-based student counselors. It provides student counselors with:
- An understanding of the overall international education market and the main destination countries for international students
- The skills and research parameters to analyse destination countries and their education products and processes
- The functional dynamics of dealing with students, education institutions, and governments.
The course covers three areas with Units A, B and C in order: The Context of International Education (Destination countries, education systems, legal requirements, and visas), The People in International Education (Students, education institutions’ personnel, and immigration authorities), Promoting International Education (Working effectively, marketing, and ethics). Course participants who pass this formal test will earn an IATC Certificate to indicate their new designation. In a further recognition of this professional standing, all agencies with IATC-certified counselors will be listed on a special web locator map, the IATC Finder.
The formal test is online and comprises 50 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 80 minutes. During the test, candidates will have access to online and offline resources. They will not be tested on individual country information/regulations. Candidates may use personal notes or information presented online from the course content during the test, but they will not be allowed to ring anyone or ask other people for assistance.
To prepare for the formal test, participants can take the IATC self-assessment test, which is available on the IATC homepage once logged in. The IATC course materials are also available online free of charge via the website. This self-assessment test is similar in structure to the formal IATC test and is an objective module in that each question has only one correct answer. The pass mark is 80%, and the IATC Certificate along with personal IATC number will be instantly emailed upon success.
Since the IATC provides up-to-date information on timely manner about international education principles and processes, new entrants, student counselors as well as practicing counselors will greatly benefit from the ICEF certification as well as the course. There are no qualifications or specific language requirements to the IATC.
